“The 4Cs in Solving the Caries Puzzle”
Friday, October 1, 2021    8:30am – 11:00am 3 CEUs

Course Description

This program introduces the value of implementing a Caries Risk Assessment to identify patient’s risk level for dental caries. Mapping a treatment plan is only successful when the dental team collects all factors that influence the caries pattern and prevalence based on their medical history, lifestyle changes, behaviors and systemic conditions. The 4Cs highlight significant components that build the schematic design in delivering evidence-based prevention.

Case Studies will provide the participants with suggested risk patterns that indicate the need to design an individualized treatment protocol. Encouraging interactive discussion among the audience will improve the critical thinking skills and promote best practices in oral health care.

Learning Objectives

  • Execute an effective CRA (CAMBRA) risk assessment within the standard of care for every patient
  • Introduce the stages of incipient caries applying the ICDAS international codes
  •  Preview and discuss various patient cases to identify the variables that individualize the prevention plan and patient home oral care.
  • Recognize today’s dietary challenges created with convenience foods and destructive drinks.
  • Differentiate how Calcium, Phosphate and Fluoride ions interplay in remineralization of compromised teeth.

“Periodontal Therapy in 2021, It takes a Village!”
Friday, October 1, 2021 12:30pm – 3:30pm 3 CEUs

Course Description

Emerging from an unprecedented year in a global pandemic, the challenges forced on the dental team has strengthened our resolve to adapt new protocols going forward. As we approach a new year in 2021, our management of disease transmission and oral disease prevention will be tested as a result of the revised periodontal classifications and patient care processes.

In 2018, the American Academy of Periodontology published new guidelines entitled: “Three Steps to Staging and Grading a Patient” and “Staging and Grading Periodontitis.” This program will review the steps in implementing the new guidelines, patient screening, diagnosis, treatment planning, and appropriate therapies. Achieving successful outcomes is contingent on optimal instrumentation skills in compliance with the dental setting of 2021.

Learning Objectives

  • Identify and implement a proper periodontal diagnosis using the updated Staging and Grading system to classify the dental patient.
  • Review a case study to familiarize yourself with updated criteria in the new periodontal classification system.
  • Choose proper instrumentation with consideration to safe protocols and sound clinical judgement.
  • Discuss and apply evidence-based products in prevention of disease transmission.
  • Differentiate between natural and implant structures with attention to examination, debridement and home care aids.
  • Improve ergonomics with focus on extra-oral fulcrums, sharpening and selecting advanced hand and power instruments.
